I'm Lynsey, an experienced modern foreign languages teacher based in Angus, Scotland
I have over a decade of experience teaching French, Spanish and English as a Foreign Language.
My passion for languages extends way beyond the classroom. I am always looking for a new French TV show to binge or Spanish podcast to listen to. I am still a language learner myself as well, so I know how hard it is when you're right at the start of your language learning journey. My recent trips to Italy have motivated me to brush up on my Italian, but I have also dabbled in German and Swedish over the last few years.
Travel is a huge part of my life and one of my biggest motivators when it comes to language learning. I love having the opportunity immerse myself in a new culture, meet local people, learn new vocabulary and savour different cuisines.
I love to bake and I am currently learning all about the art of French pâtisserie. (Yes, that does mean you will be expected to sample my amateur viennoiserie in class!)
My love for cultural exploration fuels my enthusiasm for teaching languages. I can't wait to share my passion for languages with you and help you unlock the wonderful experiences and opportunities that come with being able to communicate in another language.
My qualifications and experience
MA (Hons) Translating and Interpreting (French & Spanish), first class honours
Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), Secondary Languages
Certificate in Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL)
12 years' teaching experience
Extensive experience teaching Scottish National Qualifications (National 5, Higher & Advanced Higher)
2 years' experience preparing English learners for KET, PET and FCE for Schools qualifications (now A2, B1, B2)
e-Learning Content Creator for WestOS (Higher Spanish)
Fully registered with General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS)
PVG registered
3 years spent living, studying and working in Spain
6 months spent living in Switzerland, studying at the prestigious Université de Génève
There is nothing quite like the experience of communicating in another language. Whether that's speaking fluently with friends and colleagues, or engaging in a simple interaction like ordering a coffee or making small talk about the weather. What a feeling!
Being able to speak other languages has allowed me to experience aspects of life I never would have been able to otherwise. I want everyone to experience that joy of speaking another language.
I know not everyone has great memories of learning French or Spanish at school, and perhaps this has led to you feeling like learning a language is too hard, or even impossible.
And yes... it is hard to learn a language! But it's also fun, interesting, exciting, rewarding and so very worthwhile!
You won't be fluent overnight, but with a little commitment, practice and willingness to push yourself out of your comfort zone, I believe absolutely everyone can learn to communicate with confidence in another language.
My aim is to provide you with a fun and fulfilling language learning experience which will take you to the next level in Spanish, French or English. Whether you're just starting out or looking to progress further in your chosen language, I am passionate about helping you to achieve your language learning goals.
